OKLAHOMA CITY – In a stunning display of civic engagement, local man Shelby Lang Smith, 47, was arrested this week after allegedly defacing the Oklahoma Capitol with anti-ICE slogans and threats, prompting praise from officials for his 'unwavering commitment to something, eventually.' Authorities later confirmed Smith is a registered child sex offender, leading to widespread speculation that his activism might have been, at best, 'a little unfocused.'
“Mr. Smith’s passion for social justice is undeniable, even if his personal record suggests a rather selective interpretation of 'justice,'” stated Officer Brenda Kincaid, Head of Public Relations for the Oklahoma Department of Irony and Misplaced Priorities. “We believe he was so consumed with the plight of others, he simply overlooked the rather significant plight of himself.”
Investigators are now exploring whether Smith's alleged vandalism was a genuine act of protest or a highly elaborate, albeit poorly executed, distraction. “It’s a bold strategy, Cotton,” remarked Dr. Percival Witherbottom, a Senior Analyst at the Institute for Self-Defeating Behavior. “One might even call it a 'Hail Mary' pass in the game of public perception, though it appears to have landed squarely in his own end zone.”
Smith faces 10 charges, including felony defacement of public property and, presumably, 'gross oversight of personal accountability.' Sources close to the investigation suggest Smith's next protest might involve a strongly worded letter to his parole officer.
