GENEVA – Citing an unprecedented surge in public confusion regarding the nature of reality, a consortium of international bodies today unveiled plans for a global public awareness campaign: 'Is This Real? A Daily Guide to Not Losing Your Mind.' The initiative, spearheaded by the newly formed Coalition for Cognitive Anchoring (CCA), seeks to provide citizens with simple, repeatable exercises to confirm their physical presence in a world increasingly saturated with indistinguishable AI-generated content.
“The line between what is and isn’t has blurred to a degree that threatens societal cohesion,” stated Dr. Aris Thorne, lead cognitive stability officer for the CCA. “We’ve moved beyond deepfakes; now, your morning coffee could be a sophisticated neural network’s fever dream. Our goal is to give people a fighting chance against the creeping dread that everything they perceive might just be a very convincing algorithm.”
The campaign will feature PSAs demonstrating techniques such as 'The Pinch Test' (a classic, though now with enhanced legal disclaimers), 'The Gravity Check' (dropping an object and observing its descent), and 'The Human Interaction Protocol' (attempting to engage in meaningful dialogue with a non-bot entity).
Critics argue the campaign is a band-aid solution, failing to address the root cause of AI’s unchecked proliferation. However, a spokesperson for the CCA maintained, “Until we can regulate the fundamental nature of existence, we’re focusing on helping people remember if they’ve actually eaten breakfast or merely watched a hyper-realistic simulation of it.”
Experts suggest the next phase of the campaign will involve teaching people how to identify if *they themselves* are AI.
